The paradise of St Kitts

St Kitts and Nevis is a twin-island federation whose economy is dominated by tourism, agriculture and light manufacturing industries. Though colonized from the early 17th century St Kitts remains largely unspoiled and un-crowded to this day. There is plenty to see from its spectacular beaches and beautiful mountains to charming plantations and a colossal fortress. Plantation homes have been transformed into impressive yet comfortable inns and there are quaint shopping areas and beautiful colonial architecture which draw visitors even to tiny towns. There are also plenty of activities to engage your body and mind like the various tours through lava formations, tropical forest areas, and seaside lagoon meant for nature lovers besides the more preferred boating tours, water sports and scuba diving expeditions.

There is not such a thing as a bad time to go to this most seductive spot in the Caribbeans. Still, the best time to visit is November and early December, in terms of expense and weather. From around mid-December to mid-April, it will be high-season rates there.

Passionate about everything
               Sreesanth

Sreesanth is as passionate about traveling as about playing cricket. He has been roaming around the world from a young age and all the places he has visited have left indelible imprints on his mind. He shares his ideas, tastes, dreams and philosophy with the Travelbird...

SreesanthI have traveled a lot thanks to cricket and I had always managed to roam around the countries where we went to play. But even otherwise, matches or no matches, I like to travel. My favourite haunt is St Kitts Island of the Caribbeans. It is a terrific place. Then I find the interiors of Kerala, especially its backwater areas, fabulous. There is one place where I have not had the chance yet to go but would like to visit. That is Las Vegas. No, not to gamble. It is just to be there in those casinos.

Most thrilling experience

I used to go around the beautiful English countryside often in a Ferrari when I was playing for the Warwickshire. That was the most thrilling travel experience I have had. It was like a dream coming true for me.

Favourite stay

The Marriot Hotel of St. Kitts is my favourite. After that comes the Emirates Hotel of Abudhabi.

What do I do?

SreesanthI just roam around and take interest in meeting the people of all these places. Meeting and studying different people, making connections … it is all great fun. Then, I am a heavy shopper, but I tend to be very selective about the things I buy. I go for brands and I have my favourite ones.

Oh yes, food is also very important. I go in search of local tastes wherever I happen to be. Tasting the food of a place is quite synonymous with knowing that place for me.

Travel kit

I never forget to take credit cards, pictures of my favourite gods and my precious I-pod. I also take books that motivate and inspire, for reading.

And here is a word of advice if you want to travel in peace: avoid the mobile phone and internet connection.

Philosophy of traveling

Remove all other thoughts from the mind. Let the mind be free and happy in order to enjoy the moment. That is my philosophy where traveling is concerned.

If there is a much loved person with you as a co-traveler, how wonderful these travels would become! It would be so romantic! I will have to find such a person soon.

Travel slogan

Be passionate. You are sure to make it wonderful. As for me, I enjoy even the short trips that I make around my native Kochi very much.
